SuperBowl Sunday

Unless one of my teams (Green Bay, New Orleans or Cincinnati) is playing in the SuperBowl, it's a big HO-HUM day for me.  Nevertheless, as a virtuallly talentless gambler, I am in on one cash bet and one pool (with great numbers - maybe my luck will change?).

As America's most closely revered sport closes out its season, I am pretty noncommittal about the whole thing.  I don't even care about the commercials, although some are exraordinarily creative and funny.

I think I'll spend the day reading the NY Times and skip even the Barkus parade because it's chilly.  I'll make a nice dinner and watch some TV (like Poker Face and French Connection II).  I may finish the Stephen King book I started two weeks ago.  I may work on my own short story.

I have always failed the frenzied fervor Americans get at the end of football season.  Good day to stay home as the drunks leaving the bars when the big game is over will still insist they are fine to drive.  This is the surest way to spot an avid football fan.  As their brain shrinks from intoxication, their confidence grows with bravado, especially if their team won.

Yeah SuperBowl Sunday, is really not worth the hype it gets.  The game being played in Arizona is just another ho-hum, since Arizona is appalling these days.  Who the blank grows alfalfa in the middle of the desert with no water source?  This would only seem like a good idea to an Arizonian.  Infer what you will from that statement.

My money's on the Eagles.
