Richest Country in the World

I just got off the phone with my dear friend, who is a cancer survivor.  Yeah, right, cancer survivor, only in the sense that she didn't die.  So far, she's managed to come back to her life after a year of strenuous treatment and surgery.  But let me tell you what she's come back to and ask you how long you think she'll survive.

An employer who won't take her back because he's made a "commitment" to the woman who took her place in his dental practice.  What about a commitment to an employee who just happened to get sick?  Obviously, doesn't matter.  You're only as good as your billable hours.

Bankruptcy, because their insurance couldn't even begin to cover all of her medical expenses.

Depression, because she can't afford the medication that would help her.

Anxiety about losing her home.

Money problems, because coming up with the attorney's retainer for filing bankruptcy is more than any bankrupt person could afford.

Fear.  Of losing everything she's worked her entire life to have, which is a home and food on the table.  Not asking much of life, and working her whole life to keep her family healthy and solvent.

Now how is it in the richest country in the world, people who encounter difficult situations are just tossed aside because there is no place in our country for non-producers?

This is a statement about America.  We don't F*UCKING care about you if you aren't a productive member of society, and we don't give a F*CK why you're in that position.  We should just call ourselves Mexico and be done with it.

I have never been more ashamed in my life to be a member of this society, and never felt such annoying hatred for the system that is America, for what we've allowed ourselves to become.

Tear it Down.  Burn it Down.  Revolution NOW!

God bless your friend. I agree with you that the US has lost its sense of society. You can drop your kid off at elementary school at 9:00 AM and they can be blown away by an NRA certified nut with an assault weapon 30 minutes later. And it's the parent's fault because they did not endorse armed teachers.
And if you become ill, you are treated well until your money runs out.
This is not a way to live.

Thank you for your kind words and your understanding that what America has become is not worth preserving.

I feel for you and your friend. Has your friend contacted Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee? They deal with bankruptcy and all sorts of other legal issues for low income individuals and the poor. A friend of mine went there for help with filing for bankruptcy and their attorney charged little to no fee. If I remember correctly.

Another thing, my dad had cancer and the state paid for his treatment and care. It is called "end-of-life", or "end-stage" cancer care. Then again, that was just before walker took office. Anyway, my dad has now recovered from his cancer.

I wish the best for you and your friend!

Thank you for your information; I'll pass it on to my friend. If she could just get a handle on the financial side of things, I think she'd be okay. Right now, she just wants to stay in bed and who can blame her. Well, that's easy -America blames her for getting sick.

Any society can be judged by how it cares for it's weakest members. Just don't get sick or old. Even wolves care for wounded or sick members of the pack.

This is the true mark of a society; how well it cares for its most vulnerable members. Here in the U.S., we're not wolves; we bottom feeding slug sharks.

Keep us informed on your friend's progress.

I will, indeed. Having dinner this evening with another friend who has a very rare form of an aggressive cancer. She has opted to stop all treatment in order to have some type of quality life, as she was very ill from the treatments. Another journey I'm a part of and feeling my way with no real clue of how to help. On the bright side, her spirits are very good since she's starting to feel better, and for that, I am thankful.

Being part of the journey is the best thing you can do.
